A Visit To The 2010 Winter Olympics
With the start of the 2010 Winter Olympics, there are many individuals heading to Vancouver, Canada. Starting this weekend, the Olympics are the place where the best athletes, from around the world, compete in the winter capital of the world.
Traveling is going to be difficult because of the sheer amount of visitors to the city. Rooms would have had to be booked weeks and months ago, but with the help of the internet or some inside knowledge, there still may be a place to stay. It’s just going to be difficult to organize it at this late date.
During these next few weeks the main focus in the sports world will be on the Winter Olympics. The top athletes from around the world will be fighting for a chance to take the gold medal home to their countries There is no bigger honor than winner that gold medal and these Olympians work hard during the off years to train for this major sporting event. Although there are many that believe the Summer Olympics are much better and more exciting, there are others that completely disagree. I am a major fan of the Winter games. To me there is nothing more exciting than the luge, ski jumps and bobsledding events.
Many of the classic games are still a part of the Winter Olympics but they have also added many new and exciting events, such as snowboarding and many new ski events. The Olympics, whether winter or summer, is about the athletes and their stories. Some of the stories can be as inspiring and compelling as the games themselves. Whether a team sport or an individual sport, there is nothing more entertaining than the Winter Olympics.
Remember the US hockey teams’ unlikely defeat of the Soviet team in 1980? It just doesn’t get any better than that and almost every game has a moment or moments like that. Those are the kinds of things that fans live for and want to see. And who knows, if you watch as much as you can, maybe you will even learn the rules for curling. It’s such a weird sport.
